Austria Technologie & Systemtechnik AG (AT&S), a global leader in the production of printed circuit boards (PCB) and high-performance integrated circuit (IC) substrates based in Austria, is set to commence its first IC production operations at Kulim Hi-Tech Park in Kulim, Kedah.

According to AT&S CEO Andreas Gerstenmayer, the Austrian company has invested over €1 billion (RM5.12 billion) in the AT&S Campus, which is the group’s first production site in Southeast Asia. He further stated that the first phase of the project in Kulim is expected to create opportunities for 6,000 new jobs, including 4,500 blue-collar workers.

“With AT&S’s investment in Malaysia, we are creating thousands of high-tech jobs in this region. By the end of this year, we will create nearly 2,500 new jobs, with 1,500 blue-collar workers operating in a highly advanced environment,” he said during a media briefing on Tuesday, a day before the official opening of the AT&S Campus in Kulim Hi-Tech Park.

AT&S, which also has facilities in Nanjangud, India, Chongqing, and Shanghai in China, and Ansan, South Korea, has constructed a state-of-the-art facility in Kulim, with a planned investment of approximately €1.7 billion under Phase 1 of the project.

The inauguration ceremony of the AT&S production facility was attended by Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Liew Chin Tong, and Kedah State Executive Councillor for Industry and Investment, Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah, as well as the Chief Operations Officer of Invest Kedah Berhad, Mr. Noor Ikhsan bin Abd Aziz.
