AT&S Campus in Kulim Hi-Tech Park will provide 2,500 new jobs
Austria Technologie & Systemtechnik AG (AT&S), a global leader in the production of printed circuit boards (PCB) and high-performance integrated circuit (IC) substrates based in Austria, is set to commence its first IC production operations at Kulim Hi-Tech Park in Kulim, Kedah.
According to AT&S CEO Andreas Gerstenmayer, the Austrian company has invested over €1 billion (RM5.12 billion) in the AT&S Campus, which is the group’s first production site in Southeast Asia. He further stated that the first phase of the project in Kulim is expected to create opportunities for 6,000 new jobs, including 4,500 blue-collar workers.
“With AT&S’s investment in Malaysia, we are creating thousands of high-tech jobs in this region. By the end of this year, we will create nearly 2,500 new jobs, with 1,500 blue-collar workers operating in a highly advanced environment,” he said during a media briefing on Tuesday, a day before the official opening of the AT&S Campus in Kulim Hi-Tech Park.
AT&S, which also has facilities in Nanjangud, India, Chongqing, and Shanghai in China, and Ansan, South Korea, has constructed a state-of-the-art facility in Kulim, with a planned investment of approximately €1.7 billion under Phase 1 of the project.
The inauguration ceremony of the AT&S production facility was attended by Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Liew Chin Tong, and Kedah State Executive Councillor for Industry and Investment, Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah, as well as the Chief Operations Officer of Invest Kedah Berhad, Mr. Noor Ikhsan bin Abd Aziz.

KEDAH, 15 January 2024 – Ferrotec Holdings Corporation, a global supplier of materials, components, and precision system solutions, today announced the Grand Opening Ceremony to start production of its new manufacturing facility at Kulim Hi-Tech Park, Kedah, facilitated by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).
The plant which will be undertaking electromechanical assembly and advanced material fabrication for semiconductor equipment is designed to meet customer needs while also expanding the Group’s business globally.
The ceremony was attended by Dato’ Seri Haji Muhammad Sanusi Bin Md Nor, Kedah Menteri Besar; Ms. Lim Bee Vian, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Investment Development) of Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA); Tuan Haji Mohd Zaini Haji Ramli, Kulim District Officer; Dato’ Mohd Sahil Bin Zabidi, Group CEO of KTPC; Mr. He Xian Han, President of Ferrotec Holdings Corporation and Group CEO; Mr. Yamamura Takeru, Vice President of Ferrotec Holdings Corporation and Chief Executive Officer of Ferrotec Manufacturing Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.; Mr. He Anzhi, Managing Director of Ferrotec Manufacturing Malaysia.; as well as other distinguished guests.
From January to September 2023, the Machinery & Equipment (M&E) industry witnessed substantial investments, amounting to an impressive RM10.8 billion across 63 projects. This included RM9.6 billion from foreign investments and RM1.2 billion from domestic sources. Ferrotec has invested approximately RM850 million in this project creating more than 800 job opportunities, with majority catered towards our local talents.

Invest Kedah Berhad also participated in the Work Visit and Facilitation by the Post-Investment Division of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) HQ to Kedah.
The main purpose of this visit is to assess the industrial area infrastructure that has the potential to receive MIDA maintenance allocations and to facilitate collaboration with companies investing in the state of Kedah.
This two-day visit took place in industrial areas in Kulim, Padang Meha, around Sungai Petani, and included a visit to Nichias FGS in Bandar Darulaman, Jitra, Kedah.
The delegation was led by Ms. Zabidah Daud, Director of the Post-Investment Division, Mr. Nik Mohd Faizal Nik Kamarudin, Assistant Director of the Post-Investment Division, and Ms. Simma Mahirah Mustafa, Assistant Director of the Post-Investment Division.
In addition, a courtesy visit was made to the Honorable Dr. Haim, Hilman bin Abdullah, Member of the State Government of Kedah (Chairman of the Industry & Investment Committee, Higher Education and Science, Technology & Innovation Committee) at Wisma Darul Aman, Alor Setar, Kedah.
This courtesy visit session was also attended by Mr. Noor Ikhsan bin Abd Aziz, Chief Operating Officer of Invest Kedah Berhad.

Kedah State Industry & Investment Standing Committee Meeting

Thank you to all of the government agencies and local governments (PBT) that participated and shared their perspectives and the most recent developments. This meeting focused on the PBT’s present readiness to welcome the E10 process or Express Construction Permit for a 10-month period. E10 is critical in attracting investors to the state of Kedah. Then, talk about investment promotion in 2024 to support the Greater Kedah objective and the Kedah Development Plan 2035.

Bhd. (KTPC) to follow the latest developments of KTPC and KTPC subsidiaries. Today, KTPC and KHTP have become high benchmarks for other states and countries. This is what will make Kedah more consistent in its progress.
After the joint session with KTPC, a work visit around the Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP) industrial area was also held. KHTP has shown a good and proud development by KTPC, and KHTP will become the Greater KTPC in line with Kedah 2035.
Next, hold a discussion with En Yusuri Yusof, Executive Director, Kedah Industrial Skill and Management Development Center (KISMEC). Many improvement agendas were discussed together to prepare a skilled workforce to meet the needs of the industry.
Apart from that, a work visits to Kulim Advanced Technologies (KTechno), which is a subsidiary of Kulim Technology Park Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (KTPC). KTechno takes responsibility for holding courses and training for anyone who is interested in gaining knowledge in the form of technical skills. This is one of the state government’s efforts to ensure that the labour needs of the industry can be met by skilled local children.
Finally, held a meeting with Jazz Park, Kulim. Jazz Park, which will develop housing estates, hotels, shopping complexes, private hospitals, and more. If this Jazz Park is fully completed, Kulim will definitely be livelier, with residential areas and commercial activities here.

Visit to the burning factory in Bukit Selambau, Sungai Petani
YB Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah, Exco Industry and Investment, Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, together with Mr. Noor Ikhsan bin Abd Aziz, Chief Operating Officer of Invest Kedah, visited the burned factory in Bukit Selambau, Sungai Petani.
When a fire broke out, Amanjaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was dispatched to the scene, along with BBP Sungai Petani, BBP Kulim Hi-Tech, and BBP Yan. According to a spokesperson for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), an emergency call about the incident was received at approximately 7.57 p.m., and multiple machinery were deployed to the location for firefighting efforts.
However, the initial investigation revealed that the plant in issue included many warehouses believed to be utilized to process metal-related recycled materials. As a result, the state government is taking this situation seriously and will take preventative measures to ensure that it does not happen again.
