AT&S Campus in Kulim Hi-Tech Park will provide 2,500 new jobs
Austria Technologie & Systemtechnik AG (AT&S), a global leader in the production of printed circuit boards (PCB) and high-performance integrated circuit (IC) substrates based in Austria, is set to commence its first IC production operations at Kulim Hi-Tech Park in Kulim, Kedah.
According to AT&S CEO Andreas Gerstenmayer, the Austrian company has invested over €1 billion (RM5.12 billion) in the AT&S Campus, which is the group’s first production site in Southeast Asia. He further stated that the first phase of the project in Kulim is expected to create opportunities for 6,000 new jobs, including 4,500 blue-collar workers.
“With AT&S’s investment in Malaysia, we are creating thousands of high-tech jobs in this region. By the end of this year, we will create nearly 2,500 new jobs, with 1,500 blue-collar workers operating in a highly advanced environment,” he said during a media briefing on Tuesday, a day before the official opening of the AT&S Campus in Kulim Hi-Tech Park.
AT&S, which also has facilities in Nanjangud, India, Chongqing, and Shanghai in China, and Ansan, South Korea, has constructed a state-of-the-art facility in Kulim, with a planned investment of approximately €1.7 billion under Phase 1 of the project.
The inauguration ceremony of the AT&S production facility was attended by Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Liew Chin Tong, and Kedah State Executive Councillor for Industry and Investment, Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah, as well as the Chief Operations Officer of Invest Kedah Berhad, Mr. Noor Ikhsan bin Abd Aziz.

KEDAH, 15 January 2024 – Ferrotec Holdings Corporation, a global supplier of materials, components, and precision system solutions, today announced the Grand Opening Ceremony to start production of its new manufacturing facility at Kulim Hi-Tech Park, Kedah, facilitated by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).
The plant which will be undertaking electromechanical assembly and advanced material fabrication for semiconductor equipment is designed to meet customer needs while also expanding the Group’s business globally.
The ceremony was attended by Dato’ Seri Haji Muhammad Sanusi Bin Md Nor, Kedah Menteri Besar; Ms. Lim Bee Vian, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Investment Development) of Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA); Tuan Haji Mohd Zaini Haji Ramli, Kulim District Officer; Dato’ Mohd Sahil Bin Zabidi, Group CEO of KTPC; Mr. He Xian Han, President of Ferrotec Holdings Corporation and Group CEO; Mr. Yamamura Takeru, Vice President of Ferrotec Holdings Corporation and Chief Executive Officer of Ferrotec Manufacturing Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.; Mr. He Anzhi, Managing Director of Ferrotec Manufacturing Malaysia.; as well as other distinguished guests.
From January to September 2023, the Machinery & Equipment (M&E) industry witnessed substantial investments, amounting to an impressive RM10.8 billion across 63 projects. This included RM9.6 billion from foreign investments and RM1.2 billion from domestic sources. Ferrotec has invested approximately RM850 million in this project creating more than 800 job opportunities, with majority catered towards our local talents.

Invest Kedah Berhad also participated in the Work Visit and Facilitation by the Post-Investment Division of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) HQ to Kedah.
The main purpose of this visit is to assess the industrial area infrastructure that has the potential to receive MIDA maintenance allocations and to facilitate collaboration with companies investing in the state of Kedah.
This two-day visit took place in industrial areas in Kulim, Padang Meha, around Sungai Petani, and included a visit to Nichias FGS in Bandar Darulaman, Jitra, Kedah.
The delegation was led by Ms. Zabidah Daud, Director of the Post-Investment Division, Mr. Nik Mohd Faizal Nik Kamarudin, Assistant Director of the Post-Investment Division, and Ms. Simma Mahirah Mustafa, Assistant Director of the Post-Investment Division.
In addition, a courtesy visit was made to the Honorable Dr. Haim, Hilman bin Abdullah, Member of the State Government of Kedah (Chairman of the Industry & Investment Committee, Higher Education and Science, Technology & Innovation Committee) at Wisma Darul Aman, Alor Setar, Kedah.
This courtesy visit session was also attended by Mr. Noor Ikhsan bin Abd Aziz, Chief Operating Officer of Invest Kedah Berhad.

Kedah State Industry & Investment Standing Committee Meeting

Thank you to all of the government agencies and local governments (PBT) that participated and shared their perspectives and the most recent developments. This meeting focused on the PBT’s present readiness to welcome the E10 process or Express Construction Permit for a 10-month period. E10 is critical in attracting investors to the state of Kedah. Then, talk about investment promotion in 2024 to support the Greater Kedah objective and the Kedah Development Plan 2035.

Signing Ceremony for the Proposed Development of Langkawi Agro Park by Bioalpha Wellness Sdn. Bhd.
YB Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah, Exco Industry and Investment, Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, representing YAB Menteri Besar of Kedah, who is also the Co-Chairman of LADA’s Board of Directors attended the signing of the agreement for Bioalpha Wellness Sdn. Bhd.’s proposed development of the Langkawi Agro Park, which will be built on PT506 and PT507, Kuala Sungai Melaka, Mukim Padang Matsirat, Langkawi.
Invest Kedah is represented by Mr. Abdul Muti bin Abdul Hamid, Pre-Investment General Manager, and Mr. Mohamad Shaukhi bin Che Lah, Post-Investment General Manager.
The building at Kuala Sungai Melaka will be converted into an eco-tourism park as part of the Langkawi Agro Park project, which will be built by Syarikat Bioalpha Wellness Sdn. Bhd. In addition to utilizing the idea of edutainment, this project will provide visitors with an opportunity to engage with agriculture and witness firsthand the process of producing herbal items or health supplements, starting from the farm and ending when the product is prepared for sale.
Through the use of this initiative, at least 50 different kinds of herbal plants will be introduced to tourists as part of a direct instructional process. Hope this project goes well and serves as a spur for further investment projects to be developed in Langkawi, Kedah.

It also hosted a conference to encourage visionary thinking in the field of green technology. Global lithium battery manufacturer, EVE Energy Co Ltd, has held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new manufacturing facility with an initial investment of US$422 million (RM1.924 billion) in Kulim, Kedah.
This facility will be EVE’s 53rd manufacturing plant and will lead the development of the International Cylindrical Battery Industrial Park in Malaysia. The plant will primarily focus on producing cylindrical lithium-ion batteries for power equipment and electric two-wheeled vehicles. Furthermore, this project has the potential to create 600 new high-quality job opportunities, contributing to the local economy and job sector.
This project is in line with the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and the National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP) towards achieving zero-emission clean greenhouse gases by 2050. Today’s groundbreaking ceremony not only benefits EVE but also paves the way for more companies to invest in Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) industry and its ecosystem.
The groundbreaking ceremony today was attended by YB Dato’ Wira Dr. Ku Abd Rahman bin Ku Ismail, Senior Member of the Kedah State Government Council (Chairman of the Industry & Investment, Higher Education, and Science, Technology & Innovation Committee of Kedah Darul Aman), Lim Bee Vian, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Investment Development) of MIDA, Dr. Haji Nadzman bin Mustaffa, Chairman of Kulim Municipal Council, Mr. Noor Ikhsan bin Abd Aziz, Chief Operating Officer of Invest Kedah Berhad, and senior management of EVE Energy.

New Investment from Techvance Industries Sdn. Bhd. at Gurun, Kedah Darul Aman
The new investment in Kedah has marked this year as a significant milestone with the opening of the Techvance Industries Sdn Bhd. factory in Gurun, Kedah Darul Aman. The company has invested a capital expenditure (capex) of RM50 million in land, factory buildings, machinery, and infrastructure in the Gurun Industrial Area, Kedah, covering 11 acres with a total area of 150,000 square feet.
Currently, the factory operates with approximately 160 local staff and workers. The opening event of this factory was officiated by the Honourable Dato’ Wira Dr. Ku Abd Rahman Bin Ku Ismail, Senior Member of the Kedah State Government Meeting, Chairman of the Committee on Industry & Investment, Science, Technology & Innovation, and Higher Education in Kedah, witnessed by Mr. Noor Ikhsan bin Abd Aziz, Chief Operating Officer of Invest Kedah Berhad.
The top management of Techvance Industries Sdn. Bhd. was present at the event, including Dato’ Lau Foo Loy, Chairman of Techvance Group, Mr. Toh Tuan Sun, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Techvance Industries Sdn.
